Zombies are the good guys?
Last week, members of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church showed up at a Seattle-area military base Lewis-McChord to protest the US government’s increase in gay rights. And so, naturally, the zombies came to the rescue…300 of them.
“We wanted to turn something negative around, into something people could laugh at and poke fun at,” Neace told the paper. “It was the easiest way to divert attention from something so hateful.”
“I think that their message is very hateful, and Jesus was not a hateful person. He loved everybody,” said counter-protestor and zombie Ashley Winslow.
And Jesus was a zombie too, right?
You may recall the Westboro Baptist Church and their fearful leader Fred Phelps for their tasteful displays of brotherhood in which they protest the funerals of US soldiers killed in action or the victims of hate crimes. Most recently, they announced plans to picket the funerals of the Aurora shooting victims as well as that of Sylvester Stallone’s son, Sage – - – all deaths, that the group claims, are signs of God’s abhorrence for the increasing acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle.

In the meantime, enjoy the good work of the undead.

Mark Siwak wants to transform Detroit, America’s poster city for urban blight, into a zombie theme park. And you can help him do it.
Siwak recently started a page on fundraising site Indiegogo to transform about 200 acres of rundown city housing into a zombie fantasy camp called, “Z World Detroit.” Customers will stay overnight in the park and flee zombies in what is described as a “real-life video game” and what personal injury attorneys are calling, “a goldmine.”
At first blush, this sounds incredibly awesome. Who doesn’t want to go to this park? Other than the elderly, small children, PTSD sufferers and Jesse Eisenberg.
However, there are a few caveats. First off: who the heck is Mark Siwak? From his YouTube video, he sounds like my college roommate. I would not give my college roommate $145,000.
Second: don’t expect $145,000 to get a full theme park. That money is just for finding a suitable plot of land and developing the mechanics of the game. Theme parks cost many millions of dollars.
Third: this place is going to be a liability nightmare. We have people running around abandoned buildings. We have employees chasing them. And once customers are caught by zombies, they become a member of the undead. So we’ll have random customers chasing other customer through decrepit buildings.
This is a good idea. I can feel it.
Not that we doubted it’s presence…but, boy oh boy! The Walking Dead panel details for Comic Con 2012 are in!
Write this down – Here are the details:

Prior to the panel there will be an autograph session at 10:45 am at Booth #3721.
The final variant cover for Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead issue #100 is by Matthew Roberts. Roberts began working with Kirkman early in his career on the Kirkman-created Battle Pope series. The only way to get this variant is to sign up for The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego at www.thewalkingdeadescape.com and the variant is free with your admission purchase to be a Survivor or Walker.
Matthew Roberts has been drawing all of his life, inspired by Art Adams’ Longshot series and Mike Mignola’s Rocket Racoon. When Matthew Roberts worked on Battle Pope, he confesses, “I was moonlighting from my day job in the Air Force.” After years of serving his country, “With my patriotism quenched and my kids able to make their own breakfast, I’m back at the drawing table and honored to draw the variant for such a milestone issue and an amazing event in The Walking Dead Escape.” Roberts’ says, “I’m grateful beyond words for the opportunity to draw again, and to be working with Robert is a huge cherry on top. I couldn’t be happier.”
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Matt Roberts since the very earliest days of my career on Battle Pope,” says Kirkman, “I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s coming back to comics to work with Skybound and I can’t think of a better way of reintroducing him to the world of comics than with this cover, commemorating The Walking DeadEscape and our monumental issue 100.”
The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego takes place July 12 -15 at Petco Park, centrally located near the San Diego Convention Center. Participants can be a Survivor and race through the zombie infested evacuation zone; a Walker who becomes one of the undead, embracing the inevitable; or a Spectator who watches the apocalypse from sidelines at the Escape Party. The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego is unlike any obstacle course event in the U.S., expanding on Robert Kirkman’s best-selling The Walking Dead comic book series and graphic novel storylines, allowing Survivors and Walkers to explore the initial days of the apocalypse. Survivors will climb, crawl and slide in an effort to avoid confrontation by hordes of Walkers, while achieving the ultimate adventure on The Walking Dead-themed obstacle course. The Walking DeadEscape is not a race, and Survivors are not timed, but the end is near, and they must move swiftly. If they’re lucky, Survivors will reach the decontamination zone at the end where it will be determined if they have been infected. Participants will be amazed at the interactive displays and The Walking Dead references along the course. Early registration is strongly recommended, as walk-ups may not be available on event day. This summer, The Walking Dead will be taking over Petco Park and fans will have a front row seat to the real-life action event of a lifetime. For more information or to register for this event, please visit www.thewalkingdeadescape.com or www.Skybound.com.
