Earlier last week we reported on a site we discovered that displays world alerts in a real-time map over at RSOE EDIS. Mandi has been all over it, constantly watching threat levels rise and lower all over the world. That is why we were very excited to hear that Google itself is taking on the service in their new Beta maps “Google Public Alerts.”
Public Alerts on Google Maps, relevant weather, public safety, and earthquake alerts from US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service, and the US Geological Survey (USGS) will be accessible when you search on Google Maps.
It is still only Beta and does not cover all the threats that RSOE EDIS does, but we like how it integrates into our Google lives. As we all know Google is in the business of search, so from now on when searching through Google regarding weather, earthquakes, tsunami’s, etc… you will be fed real-time data from Google Public Alerts. Hopefully they will keep building on this and add new feeds for emergency broadcasts and one day this could be our early warning system for a Zombie Outbreak. For now we will be sticking with RSOE EDIS for our epidemic reporting. Keep it up Google!
